I am very sad they mentioned “Yellow Submarine” in the top of this article since it is my topper for the “Deep Trouble” part one final Rewatch write up.
"Callen will be involved in a fairly intense romantic arc ‘featuring one of the characters the fans have come to love as well,’ Brennan says."
OK, so let’s try to figure this one out since the Callen dating pool is shallower than I am. You got Jo, Paris (Kim Raver got the silent clock on 24), Nell, Lily, Natalie from season one, Talia. I’m open for ideas here.
For the Kensi and Deeks stuff - chatty show runner can let them figure out for an hour a week. They’re adults for the other 167 hours in a week.
And if the Russians are back as bad guys - and after this summer they likely will be - could we maybe mention that Deeks doesn’t like Russian villains. ”Fallout” and “Zero Days” needed a lines like “what is it with the Russians and nukes” or something like that.
I’m looking forward to season six. There were problems in season five but there were great hours like “Ascension”, “Merry Evasion”, “Allegiance” and “Spoils of War”, quailty hours like “Zero Hour”, “Omni” and “Iron Curtain Rising”. I’m hopeful and really looking forward to what’s coming.
I’ll still sing Yellow Submarine when I read your Rewatch. I actually saw the movie in theaters and it was the first Beatles song I fell in love with.
I have to throw out Grace from Raven & Swan, although I’d love it to be Natalie from S1 I don’t think anyone in the audience but you and I remember her. But if we really want a character the fans have come to love, could it be Rose? The fans all love her. Would he do that to Nate?
Though I wish (so much) that they’d bring Lily back, I don’t think that she’d fit the bill of a character the fans have “come to love” as she was only on once. I doubt the viewership “loves” Talia because of her being the primary tool by which TPTB have been forcing Densi drama of late. I’m afraid I’m in the contingent that doesn’t remember Natalie, and despite Marisol Nichols’ recent instagram pic it seems doubtful to me that Tracy Rosetti’s going to resurface (though that would be kinda awesome).
That leaves Joelle (seen once, only referenced thereafter, not a memorable character despite the sense the writers were drawing our attention to her); Paris, who I think the writers felt had more connection to Callen than actually was apparent (I liked her well enough, but to me, they didn’t “click”); Grace, who I actually thought really did connect with him, but again, she was only around for one episode - hard to have the audience “come to love” her.
That leaves Rose, who seems to get verbal vomit around Callen, but doesn’t seem to be interested in him (and, to be fair, she’d just had her assistant murdered when she was chattering on like that…it would make a person jabber). But still…I’ve never gotten a vibe of interest in each other from either of them.
I have to say…all signs point to Nell, I think. Which, through season four I would not have been on board with…but Neric (which I still like too) seems to have stalled, or even reversed course…and there were several episodes - Unwritten Rule and whichever one it is where Nell uses the knife on the guy in the boatshed in particular - where I actually got a sparky chemistry from her and Callen. I kind of woke up and realized “oh, that’s why Nallen is a thing in the fandom…I can see it.”
So that’s where my vote lies.
